About Kellett School

Kellett School International School in Hong Kong is one of the Kellet group of schools, and offers the British Curriculum. It was founded in 1976 as a not-for-profit school to provide education for English-speaking communities in Hong Kong. Thus, like other international schools in Hong Kong, it is suitable for children of expatriates and expatriates themselves.

The British Curriculum offered at the school integrates co-curricular activities and prepares students or learners for the IGCSE and A-level certification. It provides education or learning in the preparatory, Senior level, and Sixth Form. Students get to do public examinations such as IGCSE and GCSE as well as participate in social studies, extra-curricular activities, and external out-of-school visits.

The school admits learners from 4 to 18 years and currently, it has more than 1300 students. It is certified by BSO Inspection for its education programs. The international school is also a member of HMC and IAPS.

The school has the Extended Project Qualification, an essay, or a product and report. This is worth 50% of the A-level in terms of the UCAS point. This is in a bid to provide students with a focus on what they are passionate about. For instance, students can undertake projects such as writing a dissertation about a topic they are passionate about, making a custom bass guitar, and many others.

With the Kellett School, students require qualifying for a university, and for this, they get good guidance and support. Students are exposed to and trained on entry requirements including essays and personal statement writing. And although many students end up in the university, those who wish to not do so also get these options. The school organizes University Admissions Fairs.

In the Sixth Form, students undergo a week of work experience in Year 12 and a Careers Fair. A series of workshops such as self-defense and budgeting are trained at Year 13 to prepare students for future life.

Kellett School International Curriculum

The Kellett School generally follows the Early Years Foundation Stage and the English National Curriculum but they have made minor adaptations to these. The National Curriculum includes GCSEs, IGCSEs, and A-levels.

To be admitted to the Kellett International School Hong Kong, students or learners require being proficient in both written and spoken English. Students and learners can apply at any time during the year.

Kellett School has two preparatory level schools – at the Pok Fu Lam and Kowloon Bay.

These help the learners engage in ordinary class learning, extra-curricular activities, education visits, concerts, and sporting competitions.

The Senior School and Sixth Form follow English Curriculum – learning core subjects and non-core subjects. Students do public examinations to qualify for top universities in the world. The IGCSE and GCSE are taken as choices in Year 11. At Year 10 and 11, students prepare for IGCSE in sciences, maths, and English subjects. They then select three other subjects from non-cores such as Geography, History, Business Studies, Drama and Computer Science, etc.

In Year 12 and 13, learners can take the A-levels at the school. Students transit from Year 11 to Sixth Form for more responsibility and the A-levels. The training offers students personal development support in whichever field they choose. These include music, sports, and visits to places like Mongolia, New Zealand, and Malaysia.

All students who enter Year 7 must study Maths, English, Science, Geography, and History. Other subjects which must also be studied at this level include Computer Science and Art, P.E., Musi, and Design and Technology. Students learn Mandarin or French starting in Year 7 when language programs start to be provided. The school also provides beginner-level Mandarin, French, Spanish, and Latin in Year 8 and 9.

To develop students outside the classroom, this International School in Hong Kong has a host of extra-curricular activities. Students and learners engage in over 50 activities of the co-curricular program level. These are in the general categories of sports, arts, and others such as club and coding. These activities are split between core and non-core activities. Core activities are provided every year while non-core activities are provided depending on a student’s choice. Students complete these before school, at lunchtime, and after school. These activities are provided and overseen by internal staff and external providers.
